Bettie Jean Thurber Ingram was born in Iowa Park Texas in 1925. She moved to Henrietta TX as junior in high school and graduated as valedictorian 1942. She attended Texas Wesleyan College. After college she worked at Sheppard Force Base in Wichita Falls Texas, where she met and married Flight Officer Robert (Bing) Ingram.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday, September 28, at Floral Heights Methodist Church in Wichita Falls, Texas; burial to follow at Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm Sunday, September 27, at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home, Wichita Falls, Texas.
Bettie lived in Henrietta TX and continued to work at Sheppard AFB while Robert was overseas during the war. When he returned they lived in their home built by Robert in Henrietta. Bettie wanted to go with Robert when he was called back into service in 1951. She applied and was granted a civil service position as a secretary on the base in Okinawa Japan where he was stationed. During Robert's time in the service they traveled and lived on many Air force bases. Bettie and Robert adopted a son Mitchell "Kent" Ingram in 1957. Robert retired from his Air force career in 1966 while stationed at Sheppard AFB and living in Wichita Falls. Robert passed away in 1972.
Bettie was a skilled piano and organ player and played at the chapels where Robert was stationed. In addition she played at the First Methodist church in Henrietta and the Merle Anthony Bible Class in Wichita Falls.
Bettie continued her career as an administration assistant at Sheppard AFC until she retired in 1989.
Bettie was an avid duplicate bridge player who owned and managed a bridge studio in Wichita Falls. She invested 30 years expressing her love for the game by teaching others, and attending tournaments. She moved to Farmers Branch in 2002 to be closer to her son's family, where she also joined the Bridge Academy of North Dallas. In 2012 Bettie was recognized by the American Contract Bridge League for earning over 5000 master point and was awarded Diamond Life Master status. Bettie had many bridge partners in her travels all of which were dear to her and she spoke of often.
Bettie passed away on Tuesday just a few weeks short of her 90th birthday.
Bettie is survived in death by: her son Mitchell Kent Ingram and wife Randi, grandson Mitchell Reef Ingram of Highland Village, Granddaughter Michelle Ingram Zaragoza husband Stevan and great grandchildren Kenzlie, and Mathew of Dallas Texas. She is also survived by her nieces Suzanne Sosa of Wichita Falls, Sheila McQuown of Burbank, California, and Stevie DeVoe of Frederick, Maryland.
