WHITING, NJ -- Thomas E. Wallace Sr., 83, died at his home surrounded by family on November 15, 2024. Thomas E. Wallace Sr. was born in the City of Orange, NJ and had lived in Matawan, Marlboro, and Manalapan Townships before moving to Wyalusing, PA. and then back to Whiting NJ.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis from April of 1960 until June of 1964 before returning to back to Matawan NJ. In 1965 he started his police career with the Matawan (now Aberdeen Twp.) police department. In 1969 he then went to Marlboro Twp. Police department where he became a detective. In April of 1970 He started the Manalapan Twp. Police Department becoming the first Chief of Police until his retirement in August of 1991. He was a member of the Monmouth County Chief of Police and International Association of Chiefs of Police. He was a 1974 graduate of the F.B.I. Academy 96th Session.
He is survived by his wife Barbara as well as his brother Richard Wallace and wife Terri of Brick, NJ; two children, Thomas Jr. with wife Maureen and Dawn from them he has 4 grandchildren; Amanda with Husband Brian, Alyssa with Husband Nick, Gianna and Anthony and 2 Step Grandchildren Jake and Emily along with 3 Great grandchildren Dylan, Christian and Giovanni who all called him “Poppy.” A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 1 PM to 5 PM. at the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd, Whiting, NJ 08759 The internment of ashes will take place at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ with private ceremony for immediate family at time and date to be announced. Memorial Services will be Sunday, November 24 from 1- 5pm with Services beginning at 4:15pm. from the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home 115 Lacey Rd Whiting, NJ 08759. Committal will be private.
