Born in Flekkefjord, Norway, Erna lived in Kvinesdal, Norway until the age of 25. She immigrated to America in 1956 where she lived for the remainder of her life.
She was a master cook, leaving most of the family begging for more. Erna was also a great seamstress and artist. Erna sometimes helped her sons with art projects during elementary school, though the teachers were not fooled when they attempted to duplicate her artistry on their own.
Erna worked helping people all her life. Even after retiring from the Norwegian Nursing home in Brooklyn, NY, she volunteered at Keswick in Whiting, NJ.
She leaves behind a family that she was very proud of, sons Harry Hansen and wife Susan and Roy Hansen and wife Josephine, grandchildren Timothy Hansen and wife Kristina, Eric Hansen, Christian Hansen and Emily Hansen, and great-grandchildren Gabrielle, Mila, and Kaia. Erna Cross was preceded in death by her husband Donald Cross, who passed in 1998, and her first husband Helmer, who died in 1978.
All loved her dearly and will never forget her friendly attitude, warm smile, grace, and undying love and care for them. Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. was in charge of arrangements. To post a tribute, please visit www.andersoncampbellwhiting.com.
