Ann (Auntie) was born to Mary (Thomas) and Andrew Kranick on June 8, 1917 in Beaverdale, Pa. She graduated from East Side High School, Newark, NJ, and attended Seton Hall University. Her legacy is deep, and has enriched the lives of her family beyond their dreams. She was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company, Newark, NJ, for several years, and seeking an adventure and following her brother in the war, enlisted in the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC) at the tender age of 23. Ann was in the 149th WAAC Company, the first to be stationed overseas in World War II, and served proudly as Sergeant in Algiers, North Africa and Naples, Italy. During that time, the WAAC was transformed into the Women’s Army Corps. The memories she shared of those times will live forever in the minds and hearts of her family. After her discharge, Ann returned to Newark, NJ where she worked as an administrative secretary at Newark Airport and then relocated to Irvington, NJ with her mother, to whom she was deeply devoted. The Port Authority of New York/New Jersey was created and she was transferred to their offices in New York City. There she was a personal and administrative assistant to Austin Tobin, head of the PANY/NJ. Mr. Tobin was responsible for the construction of the World Trade Center, hence Ann was witness to its rise and fall. She was a consummate volunteer, having worked for Travelers Aid at Penn Station in Newark, Meals on Wheels, and the Treasure Chest thrift store of Kimball Hospital in Whiting in her later years.
Ann and her mother moved to Whiting, NJ shortly before her retirement in 1979 and she remained there for 34 years. At her death, she had been a happy resident of Serenity Gardens in Brick and was loved by both residents and staff. The family is eternally grateful to Angelic Hospice for their tender and compassionate care of Auntie in her last years.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, brother George, and sister Marion Kranick Nash. Ann (Auntie) will be dearly missed by her devoted niece and caretaker, Cynthia Nash-Farley of Brielle, niece Karen Howes (Thomas) of Westport, CT, nephew Christopher Kranick of Branford, CT, great-nieces, Elizabeth Farley-Ripple, Ph.D. (Michael) of Hockessin, DE, Rachel Farley-Loftus, MD Michael,
MD) of Glen Ridge, NJ, Lilly Howes of Westport, CT, great-great niece Fiona Jane Loftus, and great-great nephews Ian McKenna Ripple, Owen Nash Ripple, and Cullen Rhys Loftus.
A farewell service will be held on Friday, April 21st at 11am at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ 08759 with interment immediately following at Whiting Memorial Park.
