Joanna "Joan" Phyllis LaPorte

Joanna "Joan" Phyllis LaPorte, age 90, of White Lake, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Left to cherish her memory are her five loving children: Jeffrey (Jane) LaPorte, Gary (Julie) LaPorte, Alan (Laurie) LaPorte, David (Kathy) LaPorte, and Michele LaPorte; her six grandchildren: Victor (Brittany) LaPorte, Victoria (Brendan) Roney, Ashley (Jon) LaPorte, Rachel (Chase) Suidan, Michael (Allison) LaPorte, and Nathaniel LaPorte; her nine great-grandchildren: Audrey, Adelyn, Finn, Thomas, Adriana, Logan, Natalia, Ava, and Penelope; her brother, Richard (Sharon) Rzeppa; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Joan was born August 31, 1932, in Detroit, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph and Sophie (Twork) Rzeppa. She was married to the love of her life, Daniel LaPorte, in 1954, and they shared fifty-six wonderful years together until Daniel’s passing in 2010. Throughout her life, Joan worked as the head cashier at Chatham Supermarket until her retirement. Strong in her Catholic faith, Joan became a dedicated parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church shortly after moving to the city of White Lake. She enjoyed thirty-one years of fellowship there. In her free time, Joanna could always be found cooking a wonderful meal for her family, who she loved dearly. She also enjoyed taking trips to the casino to play penny slots! Some of her fondest memories were made on trips that she took all over the country. She was a wonderful woman who will be dearly missed.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sophie; and her loving husband, Daniel.

In accordance with Joan’s wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Mass will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 9086 Hutchins Road, White Lake, Michigan 48386. Joanna’s family will receive visitors at church on Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am. An inurnment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may consider contributions in Joan’s memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
