Carl Edward Sanders

Carl was born on March 3, 1935, in Waterford, Michigan to the late Herman and Ferna (Gillespie) Sanders.

After graduating from Waterford Township High School, he served for 4 years in the United States Air Force. While stationed in Yuma, AZ he met and married his first wife the late Evelyn Gray in 1957. They then returned to the Pontiac, Michigan area to start their married life and raise their four children. He worked at Ford Motors in the Wixom Factory and retired after 41 years of service. In 2003, Carl married Janet Freeman and spent his time in retirement enjoying his family, church, and love of gardening. He also loved getting to know his neighbors and helping them.

Carl accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and was a committed follower of Christ. He was active in service in the church throughout his adult life including serving as a deacon and other leadership roles. Carl was one of the founders of Covenant Baptist church, a member of Fellowship Baptist church in Waterford, and finally Maranatha Baptist church in Clarkson.

Carl is survived by his wife Janet, children Jonathan (Karla) Sanders, Keren (Chris) Whitney, Daughter-in-law: Carla Sanders, stepchildren: Lynette (Jim) Parliament, Chris (Monica) Freeman. Grandchildren: Carl III (Lizzy), Greg (Herschel), Ashtony, Cherie, Nathan, Matthew, Braeden, Sean, step-grandchildren: Kyle (Jamie) Parliament, Kelly (Brian) Cross, Nicholas (Daniela) Parliament, great-grandchildren: Normandy, Lisette, Tarn, Saoirse.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Evelyn; his siblings: Ferna Marlowe, Lee, Paul, Fred, and Charlotte; and his two children: Carl II, and Pamela.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Maranatha Baptist Church, 5790 Flemings Lake Road, Clarkston, Michigan 48348. Carl’s family will receive visitors at church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm. A burial will follow on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Crescent Hills Cemetery in Waterford. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may consider contributions in Carl’s memory to Maranatha Baptist Church.
