Alexander Ferguson, age 94 of West Bloomfield, died at his home in Port Saint Lucie, FL on November 30, 2014. He was born in Detroit on May 22, 1920 to James and Matilda Ferguson. On July 6, 1940 he married Margaret Ann, she preceded him in death on April 6, 2002. Alexander served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army during WWII veteran. He was president of the JA Ferguson Construction Company and built many structures in the area that include Grandale Presbyterian Church, St. Aidan’s Catholic Church, St. Suzanne Catholic Church, Detroit, New Prospect Baptist Church, Dearborn, Northbrook Presbyterian Church in Franklin, Northminster Presbyterian Church in Troy, Beth Shalom Temple in Oak Park, Brother Rice High School, Grosse Pointe North, Charles Mott High School, Chippewa Valley High School in Clinton Twp., Glenn M. Levey Middle School in Southfield, Adelai Stevenson High School in Livonia Redford Union High School, Stuckey Elementary in Redford, Plymouth Salem High School in Canton, Wayne Memorial High, West High School, Campbell Elementary in Detroit, Oakland University Vandenberg Hall, C.S. Mott Center for Wayne State University, Mercy College in Detroit, Orchard Lake City Hall, Southfield Civic Center, People Mover Maintenance Control Center and many other schools, churches, restaurants and shopping centers. Alexander was an avid golfer who was proud of his Scottish Heritage. He was a member of Orchard Lake Community Church and a long time member of the Orchard Lake Country Club.
He is survived by his children, James Alexander ( Sharon) and Bruce Hunter; 9 grandchildren, Margaret Wielenberg, Kirsten Ganavazos, James Jr., Alexander, Vance, Robert Ferguson, Kimberly Keith, and William Ferguson; 19 great grandchildren, Christina, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Olivia and Zoe Ganavozos, Ethan, Emma and Owen Keith, Laurisa Sinsabaugh, Jacob and Henry Wielenberg, James, Margaret, Kathleen, Connor, McKenzie, Alexandria and Cheyenne Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Ann, daughter Ellen Jean Dewey, grandsons, Bruce Ferguson Jr. and Alexander Dewey, his siblings George Ferguson and Helen Percy.
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Orchard Lake Community, Presbyterian, 5171 Commerce Rd. Orchard Lake. with burial at Acacia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Union Lake Chapel of the Elton Black and Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Rd., White Lake and one half hour before the service at church.
