She was the fifth child of Henry and Nellie Landry. Born in Violet, Louisiana on March 7, 1929, her family moved to Paincourtville, Louisiana when Carmen was only six months old after the passing of her father. Carmen would remain in Paincourtville until her marriage to Herman “Buck” Rivere on January 20, 1951 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Paincourtville. Following their marriage, the couple moved to White Castle where they built their life and raised their five children. Despite the loss of her beloved husband in 2009, Carmen remained at their home in White Castle until 2018 when, at the age of 89, she moved to Williamsburg Senior Living Center in Baton Rouge.
She was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, a faithful member of the Catholic Daughters of America, serving in the Court of St. John # 1214 out of Plaquemine, Louisiana for 67 years. She was also an active member of the White Castle Lion’s Club, as well as other local organizations.
Carmen was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves behind to celebrate her life, and mourn her loss, her daughters Raye Nell Leggio with husband George, Karen Chapman with husband Jerry; her sons Keith Rivere, Brett Rivere with wife Laura, and Bart Rivere with wife Melissa. She also precedes her grandchildren JoPaula O’Neal, Lori Mullins with husband Tams, Brittney Ezell with husband Jon, Alex Rivere, Evan Rivere, and Raegan Waguespack with husband Aaron, as well as her great grandchildren Gabrielle O’Neal, Grace Smith, Geoffrey Mullins, and Lucy Ezell. She also held in her heart special places for her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herman Rivere, brothers Rudy Landry with wife Janet, Henry Landry with wife Earline; her sisters Gracie (Boo) Blais with husband Bob, Ethel (Mamie) Smith with husband Walter, and Nellie Sullivan with husband Albert; as well as her grandson Blake O’Neal. Also preceding her are her brother-in-law Alvin Rivere with wife Theresa and sisters-in-law Linda Ramagos with husband Alden and Willis Hurd with husband Melvin.
The family of Carmen Rivere wish to express their sincere thanks and heartfelt regards to her personal caregivers, who worked with care and kindness until the very end. Our gratitude goes out to Sandra Gay, Jeanette Ruffin, Reika Goffner, and Jocelyn Hollins for the tender care they showed.
Visiting hours will be at Ourso Funeral Home in White Castle on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, as well as Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 9:00 am – 10:45 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in White Castle on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 11:00 am. At the conclusion of Mass, interment will follow at the mausoleum in the White Castle Cemetery where she will be laid to her final rest next to her husband, Buck.
We will miss you, Mama, and we know your parents, Daddy, Blake, and our Lord awaited you with open arms, and wrapped you in their loving embrace. We love you.
