Willis was born to Melford Boyd and Ethel (Workman) Boyd at the family farm in Silver Lake, KS on August 30, 1930. He was the 5th boy in a family of six. Willis graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1949. During his secondary schooling he excelled in several sports and participated in Men's Glee Club, Journalism, Mixed Chorus, and FFA.
After graduation, Willis joined the Army and fought in the Korean War. Upon returning home he left the family ranch in Kansas for the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. "I thought the snow capped peaks were clouds when I first laid eyes on them."
In the early 1950s, Willis met and fell in love with Elizabeth Jean Grant. On October 29th of 1955 they married at St. Philomena's Church in Denver, CO.
A carpenter by trade, Willis also had a strong passion for hunting - usually with a coon dog by his side. He also enjoyed camping and fishing in the great outdoors. He gifted this admiration for nature and sportsmanship to his sons, daughters and grandchildren. Willis spent his later years tending to his expansive garden and growing very close with his several nieces and nephews.
Willis C Boyd was preceded in death by his father and mother; Melford and Ethel, his siblings; Wayne, Wesley, Wendel, William and Wilma May. He is survived by his wife of 68 years; Elizabeth Jean Boyd (Lakewood, CO) and his children; John Boyd of Lakewood, CO, Sally Clodfelter (Willie) of Centennial, CO, Julie Johnston (Terry) of Aurora, CO, and Paul Boyd (Sharon) of Littleton, CO. As well as his eight grandchildren and his nine great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Visitation will be Thursday June 6th from 6-8pm at Crown Hill Cemetery & Mortuary 7777 W 29th Ave Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. A private burial service will follow on Friday June 7th.
