William C. “Bill” Curtis was born in San Francisco on January 11, 1947 to John B. Curtis and Mary K. (Connell) Curtis. Bill lived his formative years in Santa Fe NM, graduating St. Michaels High School. In 1969, he graduated New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, with a degree in Business Administration, and received his commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Bill’s assignments over his 22-year Air Force career included Minuteman ICBM launch crew operations, audit, Air Force ROTC faculty at the University of New Mexico, comptroller, squadron commander and accounting systems management. Early into his career, he earned a master’s degree in Industrial Management from the University of North Dakota. After retiring in 1991 in the rank of lieutenant colonel, Bill began a 20-year career with the City of Aurora. He served in the City Budget Office and Aurora Police Department, where he retired in 2011 as the Manager of the Police Business Services Bureau and member of the Chief’s executive staff.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Chong Ok Yuk of Aurora; their son, John (Kristen); and grandsons William Curtis and Justin Curtis of Golden CO. Also surviving are brother John (Shirley), Bloomfield NM; sister Ellen Palmer, Albuquerque, NM; brother Robert (Barbara), Albuquerque NM; and five nieces and nephews.
Bill was a member of the Air Force Association and a life member of the Military Officers Association of America. He also supported a number of charities and maintained interests in military history, photography and fly fishing.
A Rosary service will be held at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 12735 W 58th Ave, Arvada CO on December 1st at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church on December 2nd at 10:00 a.m. Interment rites will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The USO or another charitable service organization.
