Vera was born on February 4, 1922 in Thayer, Nebraska to Pierce Lee and Katy Mickey. Vera married John F. Witthar in Independence, Missouri before John was shipped out overseas at the beginning of World War II. Vera was involved in the women’s baseball league during this time. During the war, she worked for Amour Packing House in Denver, Colorado. On his return from the war, they farmed in the Independence area and had three children – Dave, Janet and Margaret. They moved to Arvada, Colorado and had one more son – Mark. She worked at Lutheran Hospital for 20 years and retired from there. She loved to go fishing, hunting and camping. But most of all, she loved her grandchildren. Vera passed away on February 11, 2013 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband of 64 years, 3 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her children: Dave (Carlta) Witthar, Janet Marsico, Margaret Strasser, and Mark (Kathryn) Witthar as well as 8 grandchildren: Aaron, Brian, Jessica, Ben, Cindy Tonya, Cory, Stephanie, Valerie, Kimberly, Shawn, Natalie, Katy, Mark Jr., Tabitha, Kristy, Eli and 20 great grandchildren. Her celebration of life will be Monday, February 18, 2013 at 3:30pm at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery (viewing prior from 2:30-3:30) 29th & Wadsworth in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Reception afterwards at Crown Hill.
