Robert James Anderson

In September of 1936, Robert J. Anderson, (Bob), was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. At age 84, he passed away peacefully at his Lakewood home in the early morning hours of April 13, 2021 concluding a decades-long battle with prostate cancer. Bob is survived by his loving wife Viola, his son David [and wife Minda], his daughter Valerie [and husband Stuart], his son Samuel [and wife Dorothea], and his son Martin [and wife Youngah]. Bob deeply cherished his 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his younger brothers Bill, (and wife Pat) and John (and wife Nancy).

Bob and Viola were married for over 62 years. They became acquainted during a blind date and only three months later, they married. They raised their children in a Christian home, allowing them the freedom to be themselves and to make their own choices. Along the way they also cared for their elderly relatives' needs. As their family grew, Bob and Viola welcomed each new spouse and grandchild with loving hearts.

Bob was well-known for his kind and generous nature, his warm smile, his genuine acceptance of others, and the excellent quality of his work, at whatever he turned his attention to. Bob and Viola hosted countless social gatherings in their home. An invitation to The Anderson's meant all were welcome to share a good meal, laughter, joy, and the making of fond memories.

Bob graduated from East High School in 1955. He served in the US Air Force for eight years and was very proud of his work as a Communications Specialist. Bob completed an Engineering Degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He had a long and satisfying career as an Electrical Engineer at Stearns Roger, and finally retired with accolades from The RMH Group. Over the years, his skills came in handy while owning multiple rental homes, and as a partner in a furniture business, and an airport valet enterprise. Over Bob's lifetime he proudly owned, repaired and maintained several very classic cars, as well as a Goldwing motorcycle, and an RV.

Bob's strong commitment to his faith led to important roles in church leadership at the Community of Christ church in Wheat Ridge. He served in the capacities of deacon, priest, elder, and pastor. He sang in the choir, gave many sermons, provided pastoral care, and faithfully fulfilled every task he was asked to accomplish. He performed many weddings, including for each of his children over the years. For over 60 years, Bob treasured the many wonderful church members he knew and served with, in church ministry for the Lord.

Bob's other volunteer pursuits included twelve years in Toastmasters and International Training In Communication clubs, with Rocky Mountain Spellbinders doing storytelling for schoolchildren, and participating for over 25 years, singing and dancing as a member of the Northland Chorale. After he became bedridden in August, precious visits from neighbors, family, special friends at church and the Chorale, lifted his spirits tremendously, helping him know he was well loved and admired.

Bob was proud of his family and loved sharing his interests with everyone. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and beloved family as his legacy of kindness continues, inspired by many rich and happy memories. We will always cherish his loving, giving and gentle nature. The Anderson family thanks you for your expressions of sympathy and heartfelt condolences. Viola especially wishes to thank each of her children for their devotion during the last eighteen months, Martha, (Private Caregiver Extraordinaire), and the many wonderful Halcyon Hospice caregivers, for their loving and tender care for Bob.
