Born in Charles City, IA on February 10, 1940, he was the son of the late Kenneth Kellogg and Ruth Wulf Kellogg Huxol. He was a graduate of Charles City High School in 1958 where he served in the National Guard, played trumpet in the band, played football, basketball and participated in track. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard in 1960. Dick attended college at the University of Iowa on a music scholarship playing the trumpet. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and he graduated with honors in 1962 with his business degree. His first job out of college was with AT&T in Denver, CO from 1962 – 1964 and instantly fell in love with Colorado. His subsequent assignments included Kansas City, New Jersey (worked in New York), and Omaha. He chose to move back to Colorado in 1966 taking a job at Denver Wholesale Florist and eventually went on to work for the Ball Corporation. He began his career with Coors Brewing Company in 1974. He retired in 2002, as Vice President of Human and Labor Relations, following 28 remarkable years at the company he loved.
What he loved most in life were his family, friends, skiing, running, biking, tennis and the elliptical machine. He started running in 1966 and logged over 87,000 miles, ran 14 marathons (including 5 Boston Marathons), and many 5k and 10k races. At 81, he could do a 16-minute plank! He loved to travel and his favorite destination was Lake Powell.
Dick and his wife, Clarice Mae Danielson, were married on December 21, 1963 and celebrated 58 years together. His children include; daughter, Kristin Provost (Don); daughter, Karlyn Gendreau (TJ); son, Chad Kellogg (Kristen); son, Drew Kellogg (Jennifer); Aaron Wade (Deborah); and grandchildren, Don Jr., Kylie, Kenna, and Davis Provost; Keeley, Porter and Presley Gendreau; Brody and Piper Kellogg; Lane, Luke and Drew Kellogg; Logan Horan; Jaylin and Jake Wade. He is survived by his brother, Don Kellogg; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Vernon and Anne Danielson and niece Keri (Ken) King, and their children Taylor and Kenzie King and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his nephew Brent Danielson.
The service will be held at 2pm on Friday February 18th, 2022 at the Arvada Red Rocks Church, 7100 Wadsworth Blvd. Arvada, CO 80005.
