She was born in 1935 in Saginaw, Michigan, the youngest of three children. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Colorado where she would spend the rest of her life.
Growing up in Denver, Phyllis was a happy and loving little girl who enjoyed many friendships that would last a lifetime. She was especially adored by her older brother, Ernest, who would send her letters and drawings from Germany in World War II.
As a young girl, Phyllis was an avid baseball fan, attending as many Denver Bears games as she could. Her deep passion for baseball was a staple in her life as she cheered on her favorite Major League team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, often taping up newspaper clippings inside her cupboards so she could see them every day. In 1993, when the Colorado Rockies became a franchise, Phyllis felt like she had won the lottery! She could often be heard by her neighbors as she heartily cheered on her team while watching them on television.
Phyllis graduated from West High School in 1953, where she met her future husband, Gary Chilton. They were married on October 2, 1954 and shared their lives for 61 years until his passing in 2014.
She was a loving Mother of three boys, (Danny, Darren, Doug) whom she raised in a Christian home and devoted her time as their greatest cheerleader, through swim lessons, little league sports, music, camping trips, and yearly Summer vacations (often going to baseball stadiums throughout the country).
Phyllis was a full-time housewife and mother, who later would work for Accent Publishing and Safeway. Known for her sharp sense of humor and genuine friendliness, she would constantly make people laugh, enjoying lighthearted banter with many of her friends and family.
In retirement, Phyllis and Gary would travel the country in their RV or by train, enjoying many experiences together including several cruises with their friends. For many years, the two would attend spring training in Arizona to cheer on their beloved Rockies.
Her faith was of utmost importance in her life and she was an active member in her church. She would read her Bible daily, and looked ever forward to seeing her Savior.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, (Charles and Mary Seastone), her Brother, (Ernest) and Sister, (Charlotte). She is survived by her three sons, Danny, Darren (Angeline) and Doug; her grandchildren, Megan and Trent, Gary (Desiree), Hayden and Henry; and great-grandchildren, Deacon, Scarlett, Camille and Eleanor.
Phyllis was greatly loved by her family and friends, and will be missed dearly.
Her family would like to especially thank the loving people at The Manor at Marston Lake (Yolanda Romero, Chrisie Milon and Tyler Frost) where she spent the last few years of her life.
A memorial service for Phyllis will be held Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, followed by a reception from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
