Marti Jo Hackwell

Marti graduated from Exira High School in 1961 and went on to attend Humboldt Institute Airline Secretarial School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From there, her journey took her to New York City, where she worked as a teletype operator for Pan American Airlines.

In 1962, she married her love, Gary Lane Hackwell, also of Exira, Iowa, and they soon moved to Colorado, where they raised three children. Marti took great pride in her roles as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex “Ilo” and Edele Rita Leist.

Marti’s memory lives on through her loving husband, Gary; her brothers, Collin (Mary) and Charles (Jan) Leist; her children, Jeff Hackwell, Perry (Lori) Hackwell, and Shawna (Pat) Stacy; and her grandchildren, Devon (Blue) Hackwell, Amber (Anthony) Irish, Amanda (Allan) Irish, Collyer Repphun, and Sawyer Repphun.

The family would like to thank the extraordinary staff at Collier Hospice Center for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days.

A memorial service to honor Marti’s life will be held at Olinger Crown Hill, Serenity Pointe, on December 2, 2024, at 3:00 PM. A reception will follow the service, and all are welcome to stay and celebrate her life.
