Martha was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in Globeville. She attended Globeville schools and graduated from North High School in 1950. After high school she got her first job in downtown Denver as a bank teller. She worked in banking throughout her life until retirement age. Martha grew up in the First German Congregational Church of Glovbeville where she met Walter Otto Luka. They were married on July 5, 1953. They celebrated 67 yrs together until Walter passed away in 2018. Mom and Dad continued to fellowship and raise their family in the church even through changed pastors, locations, and denominations throughout the years. Martha continued her participation in the church and drove the 40 minutes to worship into her 90th year. She enjoyed serving in the church in different capacities as well as reading, playing piano, singing, bowling, and scrapbooking. She and dad were also big sports fans, especially for the Denver Broncos. They enjoyed traveling and especially like playing games, indoors and outdoors. Martha was a competitive player at the many bingo and Mexican train games at The Village. Her surviving immediate family members include 3 daughters, Linda (Steve) Elerding of Prosser, WA, Marilyn (John) Arther of Castle Rock, and Tamara (Pre-deceased, Patrick) Regan of Aurora; 6 grandchildren, David Elerding, Patrick Elerding, Joey Elerding, Rachel Arther, Ethan Arther, Mason Arther, and great-grandaughter, Sydnee Elerding. She leaves behind her surviving sister, Dorla Koch, her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews. Her beloved dog Buddy visited her a few short weeks ago and also survives her.
The family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support from the Optimal Hospice team, The Village of Belmar Team, and the many friends she has at the Village.
