Maria E. Tafoya

Maria was born April 1, 1931 in Antonito, Colorado to her parents, Jose Sabino and Maria Juanita Gutierrez.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, and four brothers, Leo, Salvador, Joe and Sam Gutierrez.

She is survived by her husband, Juan B. Tafoya, children Gerald Tafoya and wife Kathi Tafoya and family, John Tafoya and family and Catherine Altimier and husband John Altimier. She is also survived by four sisters, Sista Montoya of Pueblo,CO, Carol Gallegos of Conejos, CO, Trinie Pacheco of Lobatos, CO and Louise Herrera of Alamosa, CO.

Maria lived in Antonito till after her high school graduation as Valedictorian of her graduating class. She married her high school sweetheart, Juan B. Tafoya on October 6, 1951. Together they settled in south Denver and had three children, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Maria worked for Montgomery Ward for 30 years and retired from State Farm Insurance at the age of 66. She and her husband belong to All Saints Catholic Parish. She was an active member of the Lydias at All Saints.

Maria was loved by all who met her and she left her mark no matter how small or large on everyone's lives. She left a true legacy of unconditional love and service. Maria was a true loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She is loved and missed greatly by all.
