Joyce Constance (Young Nauman) Nelson was born August 23, 1923 in Morrill, Nebraska to Gertrude and Lee Young. The family moved to Mitchell, Nebraska where Joyce started kindergarten and in time graduated from Mitchell High School.
Joyce moved to Denver, Colorado after graduation and attended Barnes Business School. Afterwards she worked for several years as a dental assistant and for the dental society. While at Barnes, she became friends with Barbara Nauman who introduced her to her brother, Clark. They soon married on April 16, 1948. Clark and Joyce made their home in Denver, with the exception of a short year’s attempt at working the family farm in Missouri. Back to Denver, the family moved to the Green Mountain area of Lakewood where they stayed for many years. They were active members of Green Mountain Presbyterian Church where they served as deacons, and she was involved in the Women’s Circle and numerous bible study groups. She also lived in Wheat Ridge before moving back to Green Mountain after Clark’s death in 1973.
In 1981, Joyce remarried to Glen Nelson, and was married another 25 years before his death in 2005.
After a traumatic neck fracture in 2007, she was able to live at home in her Lakewood townhouse with help for several years before moving to Arizona to live with her daughter Tamra and husband, Doug. Joyce enjoyed the wild west and the many sights and activities the southwest had to offer while there.
Since July, 2015 she has resided at Northglenn Heights Assisted Living Center.
Joyce enjoyed many things during her lifetime; reading, road trips throughout the U.S., country music, western TV shows and movies, Bronco football games, word search puzzles, baking and canning, serving the church and community, bible studies, manicures, getting her hair done, needlework and sewing, popcorn and all things chocolate! She loved her family; daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She died September 13, 2019 at the age of 96.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamra Kremer, grandchildren, Joseph Ferares, Jeffrey Kremer, Timothy Hauff, and Janae Kremer, and four great grandchildren. Her daughter, Shelly Nauman, predeceased her in 2018.
