James Ford was born in Whitehall, South Carolina on January 7, 1935 as the son of Elijah Foard and Carrie Wilson. Dad matured very quickly as was required in light of the reality of being the only male in his household. On July 15, 1956 he married Omie Jean Hodge. Their marriage lasted 61 years.
James enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Canon Air Force base in Clovis New Mexico. This is where his passion for photography was born while working in the photo lab.
Dad was extremely active in the Church of God in Christ and was ordained to preach the gospel. His favorite scripture was Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. "
Dad was a dedicated provider who loved working as a Skycap for TWA, and American Airlines. He worked for 52 years, only missing 10 days of work. His main focus was supporting his family, but the work also brought him a sense of joy and satisfaction.
During his downtine, Dad was an avid baseball fan and loved the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers. Sanford and Son, the Flip Wilson show and Red Skelton were some of Dad's favorite shows, each capable of bringing out his infectious and unique laugh.
James Ford is survived by his three sons, Darryl, Keith and Kevin. He has three grandchildren, Darrian, Claire and Lauren.
