Grace Kiplinger was born in Champaign, Illinois, the eldest of three daughters born to Bertha Alice and Walter Stephen Nelson. She attended Montana State University, graduating magna cum laude in Business Administration. She worked for Stanolind Oil Company until she married Douglas Brown, a pilot in the Army Air Corps. While he was overseas, she gave birth to a daughter, Carole, on Pearl Harbor Day. Her marriage was one of the casualties of the war, and she moved to Denver with her daughter where she lived with her parents. She took a position as the executive secretary to A. B. Hirschfield. She became active in the Wheat Ridge United Methodist Church and met Milo Elwyn Kiplinger at church. They married in the summer of 1949 and the birth of three children - Kathy, John, and Patricia - completed their family. Their marriage lasted nearly 63 wonderful years. Both were active in the Wheat Ridge Grange (#155).. Grace was recently recognized for 68 years of membership. An especially important activity was their involvement with Share Colorado, an example of Grace’s lifetime commitment to sharing with and caring for others.
