11/24/1929 – 02-17-2021
Emil passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Westminster on February 17, 2021 surrounded by his three children, James, Leah and David.
Emil Joseph Walz was born November 24th 1929 in Denver Colorado to Emil Sr. and Anna Walz. He grew up in Denver and graduated from North Denver High School 1947. He was enlisted in ROTC 1944-1947. He enlisted in the Airforce Reserves 1948. Emil worked for the Rio Grande Railroad from 1948 through 1991. He started in the mail room and doggedly worked his way up to become their corporate Railroad Accountant. To achieve this he went to night school at The University of Denver graduating 1960 with a BSBA. What also made this more remarkable was that at that time he had James and Leah as babies at home crying for his attention.
Emil was a man of honor, respect and devotion. Later in life he married the love of his life Frances and created a blended family. He took on the role of Father and Grandfather always treating his new family as he would his own family. His new family was incredibly grateful for all the wisdom, knowledge, patience and attention they received from him throughout the years. In recent years, the family was especially grateful for Emil stepping up to care for their mother showing devotion and love even putting her needs above his own.
Emil was a member of the Toast Masters Club and won many trophies. He loved the outdoors and loved to go hiking in the mountains where he would look for rare Colorado native flowers. His favorite was the Columbine.
After he retired, he and Frances traveled extensively by car, boat and airplane. Ireland was one of his favorite places.
Emil is survived by his wife, Frances, his three children James, Leah and David and their respective families as well as her three children, Robert, Janet and Linda, and their respective families.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for late spring – early summer.
In lieu of flowers please consider sending donations to the Prostate Cancer Foundation https://www.pcf.org/ in honor of Emil J. Walz Jr.
