Charles William Brown

Charles William “Bill” Brown of Surprise, AZ passed away at home on Thursday, February 16, 2023. Born in Denver, CO, Bill was a graduate of Westminster High School and attended University of Colorado after serving in the United States Navy.

Bill served on the destroyer Porterfield, where he was a sonarman and achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After his active service, he transitioned to the Naval Reserves and later the Coast Guard Reserves. He served his country for a total of 18 years.

While continuing to serve in the reserves, Bill began his career in Newspaper publishing. He worked for a total of six newspaper publishing organizations in 5 cities: Denver, Dallas, Philadelphia, San Diego and San Francisco. Bill spent 40+ years in the newspaper business retiring in March 2002.

In his free time Bill was involved in a variety of sports including tennis, volleyball, biking, skiing, and golf. He was a dedicated Denver Broncos fan spending every home game in the north endzone seats he purchased in the early years of the franchise.

Preceding him in death were his mother Margaret W. Brown, father Charles L. “Bud” Brown and son Steven Charles Brown.

Bill is survived by his wife Marge Kornow-Brown, son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Raeann Brown, grandsons Nicholas Brown (Andi) Alex Brown, and Austin Owen.
