Mary-Ann (Quinn) McFarland, 83, answered her husband Charles and mother Anna's (Nanna) call to take that final journey home to be with them, on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. She died as she lived; quietly, independently, and with peaceful dignity. Born in Waterbury, she was the daughter of Frederick and Anna (Curtin) Quinn. She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy and worked for the Aetna Insurance Company, where she met and married the late Charles A. McFarland. Together they raised four children; Holly McFarland Dias (husband Joe), Steven McFarland (wife Maureen, granddaughter Kathleen), Mary-Grace McFarland, and Charles McFarland Jr. and wife.
In many ways, Mary-Ann was a woman before her time. An extremely independent and private person, she was born during the depression years and lost her father at a young age. Because of these early experiences, Mary-Ann made sure to instill a strong sense of personal responsibility, frugality, and work ethic in all the McFarland children. From our earliest memories and before it became fashionable, she was an advocate of healthy eating, living, and exercise. Both Mary-Ann and Charles were heavily involved in local politics and on many town committees that supported the well-being of their beloved Wethersfield. She was voted ""Republican of the Year"" and worked for the Town of Wethersfield as the Registrar of Voters until her retirement several years ago. She enjoyed cheering on both the UConn Women and the Red Sox up until the very day of her passing.
There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22nd at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, followed by a receiving line with the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005. Funeral arrangements by the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield.
