Maria Antonia “Antonietta” Piccolo, 89, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 12, 1935 in Taurianova, Reggio, Calabria, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Francesco Lanciotto and Caterina (Spirli) Lanciotto. Aside from her love of cooking, making her homemade sauce and meals from scratch, Maria worked at Sunshine Laundry as a seamstress for many years prior to her retirement.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Maria will be missed by her loving daughters, Emma with her husband George Santos of Farmington and Caterina “Cathy” with her husband Tony Mandile of Wethersfield; her adored grandchildren, Frankie, Analissa, Juliana, and Malena Mandile, all of Wethersfield, Sabrina Nyerick with her husband Evan of Southington and Dominic Santos of Farmington; as well as her great-grandchildren, George and Lucille Nyerick. Maria also leaves her brother, Ottavio Lanciotto with his wife Maria of East Hartford; her sister, Elena Lanciotto in Italy; and her sister-in-law, Teresa Piccolo in Florida. Maria also leaves her special niece, Emma Crocitti and several nieces and nephews here in the US and in Italy; and her devoted friend Lynda, who visited her every day. In addition to her husband Pasquale, Maria was predeceased by her siblings; Antonino, Francesco, Domenico, Giuseppe, Michele, Salvatore, Vittorio and Attilio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 17 at 11:30 a.m. in the Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect St. Wethersfield. Family and friends may call on the family Thursday morning, October 17, from 9:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
