Genevieve C. Genua, (Ginger Camilleri), 94, a lifetime resident of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024 with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Albert Genua, Jr. and the youngest of nine children born to her parents, the late Vittorio (Victor) and Gaetana (Scalora) Camilleri. Ginger was very devoted to her faith and a lifelong parishioner of Corpus Christi Church. For many years, Ginger was a member of their choir. Starting with kindergarten, through her high school graduation she attended Wethersfield schools. It was in school that she was affectionately nicknamed ”Ginger”, a name that stayed with her throughout her life. Upon her graduation, she entered the world of banking at Connecticut Bank and Trust and she remained there throughout its subsequent acquisitions and until her retirement. Ginger lead a beautiful life and from childhood was fortunate to have enjoyed her parents’ summer homes, first at Coventry Lake and then at Old Colony Beach. She especially enjoyed traveling to Hilton Head, SC with Al where they enjoyed golfing and the entertainment that came along with being there. Florida became her yearly “to go” vacation with her sister Vickie where they enjoyed their days visiting family and friends. Through those years, she made friends from several other states who also vacationed yearly at their favorite place, Clearwater Beach. Ginger also enjoyed participating in many activities at the Wethersfield Senior Center where she made new friends with the staff and through those friendships, she decided to work part-time at the center, helping others in need through the CRT program. From family, friends, co-workers and all others fortunate to have known her, time spent with Ginger was a joyful occasion. Anyone that knew Ginger, knew she would always be there for you in a time of need. You could always find Ginger around town, especially walking on Main Street in Old Wethersfield, touring its shops and enjoying a stop at Village Pizza.
Ginger is survived by her loving sister, Victoria C. Lombardi of Wethersfield/Rocky Hill, her niece Anna Maria Fornino of Newington and her nephew Victor E. Camilleri of South Carolina. She also is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Parish (Corpus Christi Church) 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Please meet the family directly in church. Burial will follow at Village Cemetery in Old Wethersfield.
