Antonio Giammarco, 94, of Port St. Lucie, FL passed away on Friday December 1, 2023 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Ft. Pierce, FL. He was born in Campo Di Fano Italy, the son of the late Pamfilo and Panfilia Giammarco. He was a resident of East Hartford before moving to Florida 24 years ago. Antonio emigrated from Italy in 1949 when he was 18 years old. He resided in Connecticut most of his life prior to his retirement from Stanadyn for over 25 years. For the past 24 years, he has been a permanent resident of Florida with his family. Antonio, who was known by his family and friends as Tony, loved gardening and making sure his lawn was beautifully manicured. He also loved building cabinets and benches, along with many other projects. When he lived in Connecticut, every year he would make homemade wine in his cellar. After his wife passed away, he took over making homemade sauce every Sunday morning. He also loved making pizzelles, among many other authentic Italian meals. Antonio was a man of faith and was a faithful parishioner at St Bernadette Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie. His favorite past time was watching the Boston Red Sox play.
Antonio faced many heath challenges, including stage 4 kidney failure combined with heart disease. He was very independent and a strong man who was not afraid of hard work, even in the last years of his life. Antonio was a very sweet and caring husband, father, an amazing grandfather and great grandfather. Family was extremely important to him.
Antonio was preceded in death by his wife, Filomena Giammarco, along with one of his three daughters, Sandra Hebert, as well as his sisters, Teresa Guglielmi and Alda DiCioccio. He is survived by his two daughters, Annette St. John and husband Thomas of Port St. Lucie, FL and Paula Giammarco of Middletown; his sister, Enia DiCioccio of Italy; four grandchildren, Rosaria Ortega and her husband Ivan and Dawn Sigmon and her husband Mark, all of Port St. Lucie, FL, Thomas A. St. John and his wife Danna of Orlando, FL and Kristen Tomaszewski and her husband Michael of Kentucky; ten great-grandchildren, Jasmin Guido, Kailie Demelo, Anthony and Dominic St. John, Skye and Bella Sigmon, Michael and Madison Tomaszewski, Gianna and Gianluca St. John and two great-great-grandchildren, Maverick and Dominic Guido.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, December 9 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Entombment will be in Mt.
