Richard R. Luther

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard R. Luther, 77, of River Vale, NJ, announces his passing on Saturday, June 15, 2019. Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Anne Colussi Luther; daughter, Kelly Anne Luther (John Riddle), Hollywood, FL;and brothers, William A. Luther (Barbara), Fort Lauderdale, FL, Robert D. Luther, Palm Bay, FL, and William Means, Washington DC area.

Richard was born on May 10, 1942, in Yeadon, PA, to William A. Luther and Mildred V. Rice Luther. Richard and Mary Anne were married on July 18, 1970, at Seven Dolors R.C. Church in Wyndmoor, PA. He received his MBA from Temple University in 1970 and beganhis career working in finance for the Upjohn Company, Crown Zellerbach Corp., T.J. Lipton, Inc., the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., and Standard & Poor’s Corp. respectively. In 1985, Richard launched Retail Resources Ltd., Inc., offering business development and consultation services to clients.

Among Richard’s achievements, perhaps his greatest is his dedicated lifetime service as a volunteer firefighter. He joined the Jenkintown, PA Independent Fire Company as a junior firefighter in 1958 at the age of 16. He was an active member in Jenkintown until 1970, including a tenure as Assistant Chief. Richard joined the River Vale, NJ Volunteer Fire Department in 1978. During his many years with the River Vale Fire Department, Richard served as Fire Chief and was awarded the Medal of Valor by the River Vale Township Council.

Respects may be paid during visitation on Friday, June 21, 4:00-8:00 pm, and Saturday, June 22, 9:00 am, at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Rd., Westwood, NJ. A Mass celebrating Richard’s life will be held Saturday, June 22, 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Victories R.C. Church, 150 Harriot Ave., Harrington Park, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to River Vale Fire Department, 300 River Vale Rd., River Vale, NJ 07675 and River Vale Ambulance Corps, 333 River Vale Rd., River Vale, NJ 07675.
