Maureen A. Murphy

Murphy, Maureen A. (nee Barry), 72, of Twp. of Washington NJ, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 23rd. Formerly of the Bronx and the Rockaways NY, she is predeceased by her parents, Bartholomew and Johanna Barry, two brothers and a sister. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, John E., her loving children, Eileen Owens and her husband John, Carol Carey and her husband Gerard, Jack and his wife Mary Anne, Maureen Madigan and her husband Michael and Jimmy and his wife Susan. Maureen was adored by her nine grandchildren, Frankie and Madeline Owens, Fiona, Áine and Aidan Carey, Trevor Murphy, Alana and Elyse Madigan, and Emma Murphy; she was joyfully expecting the arrival of her tenth grandchild in October. She is also survived by her sister Cathleen McGarity and her husband Bill. Maureen will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. After raising her five children, Maureen enjoyed a career as a home health aide. Her interests were varied but she mostly enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren, Irish music, and travelling with her husband. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9PM. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Twp. of Washington, NJ on Friday at 10AM. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Maureen’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
