Mary Murphy Curry, 91, of River Vale NJ, formerly of Hillsdale NJ, died Sunday, January 10, 2016 after complications from a fall on Christmas Eve. She died peacefully in her daughter’s home surrounded by family. According to one of her nieces, “She’s always been a solid ‘rock’ in the family, classy, gracious, elegant, sensible, and oh so loving!”
Mary, along with her husband Jack, lived in Hillsdale for over 50 years, where they raised their eight children. Mary was active in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church parish and school activities, including parent association school variety shows, where her singing acts were always “hits.” She served the parish in many ways including the Rosary Altar Society, Cornerstone, singing in the choir and visiting the sick as a Eucharist Minister. She enjoyed singing, sewing, gardening, her children, their spouses, her grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends, and was always kind and generous to all. Her greatest wish was that all she loved (and she loved everyone) should love one another and she prayed for them daily.
Mary’s husband, Jack, died in 1988, after 41 years of marriage. She also lost her daughter Cathy in 2014 and grandson John Curry III in 2008. She is survived by 7 children: Mary, Joan, Tricia, Therese, Bernadette, John, and Michael; their spouses: Ajit, Norm, Don, (Sal, deceased), David, George and Marietta; 14 grandchildren, and one recently Christened great grandchild.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Becker Funeral Home 219 Kinderkamack Rd, Westwood from 2-4 and 7-9PM on Friday January 15. A funeral mass celebrating Mary’s life and faith will be held on Saturday, January 16 at 9:15 AM at St John the Baptist RC Church in Hillsdale, NJ. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Aid to the Church in Need (www.churchinneed.org ), St. John the Baptist Church (www.stjohnhillsdale.com) or your favorite charity would be appreciated.
