Hillsdale, NJ - Mary Ann McDevitt passed away peacefully, at home, in the early morning hours of November 5th. Wife of Charles, Mary Ann was the mother to Theresa McDevitt, Laura (Steve) Cohan and Charles McDevitt (Vicki Ferraro.)
Born in Washington, D.C., Mary Ann grew up in Westwood, NJ, married and raised her family in Hillsdale. Mary Ann is survived by her brother, Bill Nugent (Rita) of Yarmouth, ME and sisters Madeline Giannini (Jim Dodd) of Arlington, VA and Cathleen Nugent of Highland Mills, NY. She is predeceased by her brothers, Richard and Tom Nugent.
Mary Ann loved her family most of all. Grandchildren: Christine, Nicole, David, Alea, Julia, Emily, Josh and Riley, her many nieces and nephews, her godson David Nugent and most recently, her great-grandson, Davey Glinbizzi. Mary Ann's "children" also included all of the Hillsdale kids that she babysat for over the years.
Mary Ann has been presiding president of the Hillsdale Fire Department - Ladies Auxiliary, of which she had been a member, for over 45 years.
One of Mary Ann's favorite things was sitting on the front porch, watching the world, as she sat in her chair, saying hello to those who passed by and often stopped in to visit. She will be remembered for her smile, her laugh, her warmth, her energy and her love for life. She made a difference in the lives of many.
It was a privilege to know her. It was a privilege to love her.
Wake will be held at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood NJ, on Monday, November 8th between the hours of 2:00 - 4:00pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Hillsdale, NJ on Tuesday, November 9th at 10:00am Committal Service will be private. Everyone is invited to a repast to be held at the Hillsdale Fire Department, 383 Hillsdale Ave, at 12:30pm on Tuesday, November 9th, 2021.
