Ronald Ervin Hosford was born August 3, 1938 in Buffalo, New York to Leonard & Amy Hosford and passed away on December 18, 2020 at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha Hosford, and his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, Sue & Ken Cruz, Nathan Cruz, McKenna Mejia, Melissa Cruz and Melia Cruz.
Ron worked for Occidental Chemical for 40 years, starting out at as a Chemical Technician at age 20 and retiring at age 60 as a Regional Account Executive. He attended Erie Technical school and earned an associate degree in Chemistry. At 30 years old he went back to school at University of Buffalo at night to earn a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration while working full-time. His job kept the family moving every 2-3 years from Buffalo, NY to Cleveland, OH to Niagara Falls, NY to Pittsburgh, PA to San Francisco, CA back to Niagara Falls and finally to Southern California where he retired. Ron & Martha moved into their 2 bedroom 1940’s bungalow in Long Beach in 1986 and after 15 years, built it up into the 2 story home it is today.
Family was always first and if you were a friend or neighbor, you were also like family. He was always willing to give a helping hand and was known to be able to fix just about anything with his pocket knife. Ron loved working and tinkering with anything mechanical, from cars to boats to appliances. He loved being on and around the water. He also enjoyed golfing and the time spent with his “golf guys”. He was also a dog lover and all dogs loved him too.
Above all, Ron was a Christian man who loved God and the love of God would shine through him to everyone around him. He had a servant’s heart through and through and the word of God was always in his heart and mind.
He was loved by all and will be missed. But he is rejoicing in heaven. It’s not good bye but see you soon.
