Dick was born on March 6, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio, the oldest child of Alfred and Emily Griffith. After high school he served with the U.S. Marines in Korea. Following his return to Cleveland, he married Nancy Tuttle and had three children. The family moved to California in 1962.
Dick was an engineer with the Ohio Crankshaft Company for 41 years, retiring in 1997. He loved playing basketball and following his favorite sports teams, particularly the Cleveland Browns, Anaheim Angels and Los Angeles Lakers. He was an avid reader and must have owned every Louis L’Amour novel in print. As his mobility and vision decreased over the past 20 years due to strokes, Parkinson’s disease and finally cancer, he faced life with grace, courage and a sense of humor.
Dick is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Barbara, grandson Dan and Dan’s wife Jen, sister Pat and brothers Donald and Neil. He was predeceased by sons David and Jon and sister Dorothy. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, in the Lakeside Chapel at Westminster Memorial Park.
Arrangements under the direction of Westminster Memorial Park Mortuary ~FD1030, Westminster, CA.
