Juan José was born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico and loved by José Abel Muñoz and Ernestina Partida de Muñoz. According to all accounts given to his children, he had a wild and fun childhood shared with his brother, Francisco Javier Muñoz.
Although his youth was difficult and he made unwise decisions, he spent the rest of his adulthood working hard to prevent others from traveling down the same path. His road to faith started while seeking sanctuary from trouble in a small church. He couldn’t understand the pull that kept him coming back until he realized the fullness of love, strength and forgiveness found in God. He became a Christian at the age of 23 and quickly picked up the role of missionary traveling to Chiapas, Mexico. He served in other ways ultimately becoming a pastor.
He was diagnosed with end stage renal failure at the age of 42. Given a life expectancy of five years, he worked tirelessly to reach just one more for Christ. He would work early in the morning to provide for his family, spend several hours a week receiving dialysis treatment, and devote countless hours organizing evangelical outreach, discipling people, and raising a church plant. He did things a man in his condition should never be able to do. God found it fit to extend his life an additional 22 years until his passing last week. God was the fortitude that kept Juan José Muñoz moving.
Juan José Muñoz was not a perfect man. He never claimed to be such. However, he was a man that tried his best to accomplish God’s plan for his life. He leaves his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild a legacy of devotion, perseverance and faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, José Abel Muñoz and Ernestina Partida de Muñoz. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Muñoz, his brother Francisco Javier Muñoz, his three daughters: Anabel Muñoz, Cristina Martínez, Eva Kasten, eleven grandchildren and the legacy of an ardent devotion to God.
