Geraldine Louise Smothers

Geraldine attended Monte Vista Elementary, Smedley Junior High, and graduated from Valley High School in Santa Ana, class of 1964. It was at the Santa Ana American Legion Post 131 where she met her beloved husband, Marvin Smothers. They were married on April 16, 1977, and shared 47 wonderful years together.

For over 50 years, Geraldine worked as a talented seamstress, creating everything from adult and children's clothes to costumes, Santa suits, and flags. She was especially known for making costumes for the Valley High School Drill Team and sewing numerous outfits for her nieces and nephews. Though she never had children of her own, she lovingly cared for many pets over the years, with her spoiled poodle, Rico, being the most beloved.

Geraldine was known for her incredibly kind heart and radiant personality. She was always happy and had an unwavering love for her husband, family, and friends. Whether it was through her sewing, visiting with neighbors, or spending hours talking on the phone, she was always willing to lend a hand and offer help to others.

Her interests included sewing, attending dog shows, watching them on TV, and shopping. She was described by all who knew her as friendly, talkative, strong-willed, resilient, and sometimes a bit stubborn, but always with a deep affection for those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arcenio Medina and Margaret Medina. Geraldine is survived by her loving husband, Marvin Smothers; sister, Lydia Perez; brother, Thomas Medina, Sr.; sister, Norma Corsaut; sister-in-law, Beverly Medina; three nieces, five nephews, six grand-nieces, and ten grand-nephews.

A visitation will be held in her honor on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Westminster Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel, followed by a service at 11:30 AM. An interment service will follow in the Westminster Memorial Park Garden of the Good Shepherd.

Geraldine will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but her loving spirit and warm heart will never be forgotten.
