Born in Provo, Utah, to Floyd and Lois (Carter) Williams, Rick moved with his family to California when he was a young boy. A gifted athlete in Van Nuys, Rick was a catcher in minor league baseball until he injured his shoulder. At that point, he took a summer job in the fashion industry and never left. Working through a variety of increasingly important positions, he became a co-owner of Timely Trends. During his career, he was thoroughly involved in his sons’ sports: Shawn focused on basketball and Taylor on baseball. Always an active listener, Rick was especially known for being fair-minded. Given his life-long interest in sports and the outdoors, Rick expanded his enthusiasm for baseball to include golf, camping, and being on or near the water.
Preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kaye, Rick is survived by his wife, Elena, his sons Shawn (from his first marriage) and Taylor, his siblings Steven Williams (Shelly), Dennis Williams (Susan), and Melanie Cortes (William), and a large number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law (Maria Vairo and Linda Skelly) and his brother-in-law (Tony Vairo), and their families.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for the services provided by Dr. Anita Kaul and Dr. Bader Iqbal. With Dr. Kaul’s support, Rick had been on an experimental treatment for lung cancer over the past 18 months.
