Reginald F. Gohil, aged 89, was promoted to Glory on August 21, 2024. Reginald was born on May 1, 1935, in Surat, Gujarat, India, to Francis and Margaret. He is the brother of Dr. Shaila Schmellakamp, Dr. Nila Desai and late Mrs. Pushpa Chakraborty.
Reginald is survived by his beloved wife, Nalini Gohil, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Penelope Stephen and Vera Kapadia, and was greatly respected and loved by his sons-in-law, Abel Stephen and Noel Kapadia. Reginald was also a proud grandfather to his five grandchildren: Nicolas, Benjamin, Rachel, Nathaniel, and Jacob. He devoted his life to his family, faith, and friends, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Reginald pursued his academic journey at MS University in Baroda, where he earned a Master's Degree in English and was honored as a University Gold Medalist. His passion for literature extended beyond the classroom, culminating in the publication of his poetry book, *Far in the Night*. He dedicated 20 years of his life to teaching, including graduate students at Gujarat University, where he was a beloved professor.
In February 1979, Reginald and his family immigrated to Brooklyn, New York, where he transitioned into an administrative role at the Brooklyn Hospital until his retirement after 20 years in 2000.
Reginald's life took a profound turn when he became a born-again Christian after hearing the Gospel preached by Brother Dassan. His faith became a cornerstone of his life, leading him to worship at Baracah Church and then serve as an elder for seven years at Bethany House of Worship, where he was deeply respected for his wisdom and dedication.
Reginald's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to learning, his literary achievements, his deep faith, and his love for his family. His gentle spirit, loving heart, and joyful laughter endeared him to everyone, earning him the warm friendship of all who knew him. Reginald’s legacy will continue through the lives he touched, the lessons he imparted, and the faith he held dear.
A funeral service to honor and remember Reginald will be held on Friday, September 6 at 10:00am at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park and Mortuary. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate the life of a man who was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him.
