Marilyn Jane Hogan, 92, of Westlake Village passed away November 24, 2020 just two days shy of her 93rd birthday with family at her side. She was born November 26, 1927, to George and Elsie Schneider of New Jersey.
Married 69 years, she met her husband; Edward Hogan at Arts high school and they remained close until they married in 1951 in Ensenada. They often joked about the legality of their marriage in Mexico, so they married again in 1986 and a third time on their 50th wedding anniversary, to be sure it stuck. They lived in New Jersey, Hawaii, and the San Fernando Valley before relocating to Westlake Village in 1969.
Lynn graduated Pratt University in 1948 and contributed to the war effort by volunteering with the Civil Air Patrol during WWII. She became an accomplished commercial artist and worked on Peter Pan for Disney.
She oversaw the rapid growth of Pleasant’s retail and wholesale businesses that she developed with her husband. While Ed handled sales and marketing, Lynn used her experience in commercial graphic design to provide all the art direction for Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays. She had an eye for finance which made her a successful businesswoman managing an increasingly complex enterprise. She was resourceful and fiercely independent and worked to balance the youthful, fun culture of the travel industry with professionalism and flair.
She was a beacon within the community and envisioned a space the community could use as an oasis from the urban hustle and bustle, known as Gardens of the World. Lynn was especially proud of the Hogan Family Foundation which was established to promote entrepreneurship and various philanthropic endeavors.
She received an honorary degree from Chaminade University and an award from accounting firm Ernst and Young honoring her success as an entrepreneur. She received recognition from the Thousand Oaks Alliance for the Arts in 2012 and was named Woman of the Year by the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce in 2016. Lynn remained civically active up to her death.
Lynn is survived by her brother George, husband; Edward and their four children; Brian, Christine, Gary and Glenn. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Michael, Shallyn, Gavin and Grant; and three great grandchildren; Ryder, Avery and Wyatt.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private ceremony will be held Friday, December 11th at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to the Hogan Family Foundation at 2834 Borchard Road, Newbury Park, CA 91320 or to their favorite charity.
