Leonard John Loomis, LTC U.S. Army, Retired, died on Aug 21, 2014 at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, CA after a scrappy fight with cancer. Leonard is survived by Linda, his wife of 55 years; and their children, Larry (Stephanie), Laurel (Don), Lisa and Layne; as well as his brother, Fred. He was a proud grandfather to four boys, Connor, Corwin, Devan and Charlie.
Leonard served his country honorably for 20 years, including two tours in Viet Nam. A lifelong pianist, his greatest joys were creating and appreciating music and directing and participating in liturgy via adult and youth church choirs. Len was an active member of the American Guild of Organists and helped more than one parish acquire an instrument of their own. He was appointed to the Council on Aging for the City of Thousand Oaks, and for six years, gave his all to help seniors and their families navigate the challenges of aging with dignity and self-sufficiency. He also raised and loved many wonderful dogs and was never without a faithful canine companion.
With Len, there was rarely a dull moment. We will miss him dearly and will carry him with us in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to episcopalrelief.org or The Church of the Epiphany Music Guild. The funeral service and celebration of life will be held at 11am on Sat, Aug 30 at the Church of the Epiphany, 5450 Churchwood Drive, Oak Park, CA.
