Dear Linda, I'm so sorry to just now learn of Leonard's death. I never had the pleasure of meeting you but Leonard and I exchanged emails now and then in recent years. We were "boyfriend and girlfriend" in 10th grade in Montgomery AL while our COL fathers were at the Air War College. I later married an Annapolis grad who sadly lost his life in the same war which your husband served in so well. I loved his musical ability when we were teenagers and admired how he made use of it in Church. He felt blessed in his marriage to you and I'm sure you felt the same. I send sympathy and blessings.

My 15 years of singing under Len's direction of the Holy Cross Church choir were some of my happiest.  Len had such a wonderful knowledge of liturgical music—both old and new—and the choir always had something beautiful and interesting to work on.  I particularly remember the production of "The Holy Child: A Cantata for Christmas," by Emma Lou Diemer & Dorothy Diemer Hendry, which provided the choir an opportunity not only to sing, but also to act and wear costumes made of bed sheets!  I so appreciate the performance opportunities that Len gave members of the choir: most of us, being amateurs, would never have had such opportunities elsewhere.  I am grateful for Len's encouragement to solo occasionally, which I would not have done without his urging.

No words can express how deeply sorry I am that Len is no longer with us.  Even though it had been several years since I had seen Len, I always expected that at some point our paths would cross again.  He was a rock that I expected would always be there, so it was shocking to learn that he had passed away.  I believe Len's spirit is looking down from heaven and smiling on all of us whose lives he touched.  I offer my deepest sympathy to you, Linda, and to all of your family.

Dear Linda and family, I am very saddened to hear of Len's passing. I so admired him as a person  of Faith, one who readily gave of himself to teach and help others.  When I last spoke with Len, I was able to tell him that he was responsible for a renewal of Faith in my life by illustrating that singing is an elevated form of prayer.  Susan and I treasured  our time singing under his tutelage and direction.   We joined this small St. Paschal Choir in the mid 1970s and experienced its growth to 50+ robust voices which sang a broad repertoire of church anthems.  Leonard was exceptional in his choice of music, selecting both classic and contemporary pieces designed to fit the particular readings of each Sunday.  Linda, you and he were dear friends to all of us in that choir, at Holy Cross and other choirs.  I pray that you may find peace and comfort at this difficult time and that memories of this fine man will bring you smiles always.

I knew Len as an animal lover. For over 20 yrs he brighten my day whenever he came in with a beloved pet, especially the goldens. It was a joy to spend time with him in our short visits here at the veterinary practice. Len was special, a genuinely warm hearted person, and he made this world a better place. I loved the passion and dedication you brought to the choir and other singing groups at St.Paschal's.  Your musical taste was amazing and delightful.  It encompassed music of various genres from different centuries and was characteristically always beautiful, moving and inspiring.  The music we made under your direction was not only a gift to the parish but also to each of us in the choir.  Every Easter, every Christmas, every celebration was richer and more meaningful because of it.  I remember those days with great fondness and a special sense of gratitude. Dear Linda - My heart sank when I heard the news about Len. You both have been such constant, loving friends to my daughter and me. Len welcomed me with open arms during the most difficult years of my life. I've always called him my mentor, as he is the one who took me under his wing and gave me a chance at joining the community of musicians here in Ventura County. I will miss our phone calls that were always filled with so much laughter and joy! There are certain things I will always remember him saying, and those will always bring a smile to my face. I'm so happy that I was able to speak with him a few days before he passed. He, as usual, was in good spirits, and was talking about you and your beautiful children and grandchildren. Rest in peace, Len. We will see you again someday. Until then, I raise up my voice in thanksgiving for your friendship, direction, and joy for life.

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of Len.  Our memories of him are warm and will remain with us always.  His post-Christmas letters were filled with beauty and we will miss them.  Len always made sure that we took time during our choir practice to pray for everyone's intentions and that made those times even more special.  Len was always prepared and on time for those practices and chose beautiful music for us to sing.  We truly praised God with the wonderful hymns and psalms he arranged for us to sing.  We know he will be among the Heavenly Hosts, singing and leading.  May he rest in peace.

Dear Linda and family; The news of Len's passing was very distressing.  The agony of his last days is very upsetting to those of us who knew him.  I (Al) sang in his St. Paschal Baylon choir in the 70's.  One of the things that impressed me was not only his interpretations of the music we sang but also the broad spectrum of music he chose. Very importantly in my mind was my belief that his focus in presenting music for the mass was that we sing to enhance the prayerfulness of our fellow parishioners.  We learned through him that our job was to help parishioners resonate with the presence among us of our Lord.  Len was, indeed, in our daily prayers as you are now.  He is safe - heaven is for real.

Dear Linda and family, we all lost an exceptional man when Len passed away.  I fondly remember the many times he raced to the music library to retrieve a song more relevant to the sermon delivered than the one planned.  His dedication to researching new and appropriate music went far beyond his job description.  Anyone who sang or heard "night of miracles" that magical night years ago with his chorus of 50 people will never forget the experience.  We shared many a laugh, far more than the tears.  Well done Len.  Well done.

It was an honor to have known and shared in the life of such a kind, genuine and loving person. He has not left you Linda because his wonderful memory will always be with you.

I just found the email from Epiphany about Len's passing and am sitting here in tears. Len was my buddy, encouraging me that I really could sing tenor in the church choir. He put up with my goofy humor during rehearsals (and shared some of his own in return). He exchanged lighthearted trash talk with me over his beloved Berkeley Bears and my passion as an "extended Trojan family" member. He shared stories with my dad about their time in the military as we enjoyed an evening at a church dinner. He was a scholar and a gentleman in the truest sense, a wonderful singer and organist and an all around good man. Thank you, Len, for making me feel welcomed. I'll miss you terribly.

Linda, god bless. I wish I could make this easier for you and the family. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I hope Len will forgive me for this, but as the Trojans' motto says, "Fight On!"

Words cannot express my sadness when I heard about Len's passing. Please know that our prayers are with all of you and Len. I will certainly miss our spirited conversations, commiserating about one thing or another. Those conversations always included lots of laughter! Our many shared musical experiences made for great conversation. I will always remember Len as a good and faithful friend who was absolutely devoted to his family. When he talked about your children and grandchildren, I could always hear the pride in his voice. 

Len's love of music was evident in his enthusiasm and volunteer work he did for the organists' guild and as a church organist, choir director and chorister. 

His love for excellent music was manifested as Len naturally became a benefactor for the churches he faithfully served. 

I, along with many others will miss Len and the great times we had. Our memories of Len are good memories and will always be with us.

Thank you for giving me the honor of serving your family at such a delicate time in your lives. From what you've shared with me, Leonard appears to have been a very loving, accomplished, involved husband, father and grandfather. His impact on the community through his organizational involvement and his impact on this nation for his dedicated service with the Army have made his stamp on this world as well. I pray the way you've chosen to honor his life through the celebration you've planned brings you a sense of peace and pride. I'm sure he was as grateful to have had the love of each of you, as you are, his.
