Lela Van

Lela Bushnell Gilbert Van, 92, of Westlake, LA. passed away June 24, 2016 peacefully at home surrounded by family. Lela was born in Kings Farm on March 22, 1924. She enjoyed family and gospel music. Her life was Church and serving others. She is survived by sons, Bill Bushnell (Peggy), Larry Bushnell (Ruth Ann), Wesley Bushnell (Peggy), daughters, Glenda Schultz (Durl), Wanda Anderson (Johnny), five stepchildren, Billy Don Gilbert (Virginia), Ronnie Gilbert (Peggy), Virginia Lathrop (Wayne), and Morse Van (Pat), Ron Van (Liz) 18 grandchildren 41 great grandchildren, and 25 great-great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by husbands William Don Gilbert, Harold Van, and the father of her children, Evans Bushnell, Parents Raoul and Artemese Buller Johnson and stepmother Minnie Johnson, brothers, Jessie Johnson, Son Bell, and Cline Bell, sisters, Ailene Nevils, Eula Fontenot, Francis Vige, Ivy Pitre, and step sister, Effie Abbot.

The family would like to thank West Calcasieu Home Health, Dr. Le Bato, Dr. Lannon and Amedisys Hospice for their excellent care. The funeral will be held Monday June 27, 2016 at Indian Village United Pentecostal Church at 11:00 A.M. The funeral will be officiated by Reverend Terry Bushnell, Reverend Kenneth Pate and Reverend Todd Schultz. Burial will follow in Green Oaks Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at Hixson Funeral Home in Westlake, LA, Sunday June 26th from 4-8 P.M.
