prostate cancer, at the North Shore Hospice, surrounded by his family. Ray is predeceased by
his wife, Veronica and his brothers, Arthur, Bill and David. He will be missed by many, but he will
always be in the hearts of his wife, Jane; daughters, Katie (Mike), Tania (William); stepdaughter,
Niki (Cal); grandchildren, Nicolas, Christopher, David, Veronica and Kendra; brother, Malcolm
and sisters, Sheila, Jean and Betty in the U.K., and Rosemary in Melbourne, Australia; sisters-inlaw,
Imelda (Ken) and Pat; and relatives and dear friends near and far. Ray, a Renaissance man,
lived a full and interesting life. He was loved and respected by his many friends and
acquaintances. He had an adventurous spirit, a kindness of heart, a delightful sense of humour
and a firm handshake. He believed in hard work, honesty and integrity. His life began in
Ilfracombe, North Devon in the U.K. He was one of nine children growing up in war torn England.
He was soon involved in the family plumbing business. After his apprenticeship he served his
national service in the army with the Devon and Dorset Regiment and fought in Cypress. Ray
travelled around the world, fell in love with Vancouver in 1967 and ran a successful plumbing, gas
and electrical business in West Vancouver for over forty years. He was a member at Tiddleycove
Lions Club and of Legion #60, helping every year with the poppy campaign. He also belonged to
West Vancouver Gardening Club. He loved the grandeur of British Columbia, the satisfaction of
working with his hands, the stimulation of intelligent conversation, gardening, long walks, a
game of tennis, golf and skiing, all the daily newspapers, lots of good jokes and a laugh and
always a single malt scotch. Above all, Ray was a positive upbeat person who loved life and lived
it to the full, appreciating every day. The family wish to thank the doctors and nurses at Lions
Gate Hospital and the B.C. Cancer Agency, the North Shore community nurses, the caregivers
and the North Shore Hospice staff and volunteers for their dedication and care of Ray. In lieu of
flowers, please consider a donation to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation – North Shore
Hospice. Visitation will be held at Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver,
B.C. on Monday, June 23, 2014 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. A “Remembering Ray” Service will be held
at St. Stephens Anglican Church, 885 22nd Street, West Vancouver, B.C. on Tuesday, June 24,
2014 at 10:00 a.m. Refreshments to follow at the church.
