Mary Teresa Lewis

August 14, 1934 – July 19, 2024

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mary, who left us peacefully in Lions Gate Hospital.

Mary was the loving wife of Steven, the mother of daughter Oonagh Kerwin (Eric) and son David.

Born in Co. Leitrim, Ireland she is survived by sisters Dympna and Nuala, predeceased by brothers Ciaran, Albert, Brendan, Desmond, sister Una and son-in-law Paul Tyson.

Mary left Ireland in 1950 to enter the convent in a teaching order. She was sent to Paris and then to New York where she earned a Master's Degree. She determined in 1965 that she was not suited to convent life and returned to Ireland. She taught in Ireland and then moved to London, England, where she met Steven. They were married in 1967 and emigrated to Canada, eventually setting up home in North Vancouver.

Mary was very active in Holy Trinity Parish and taught for a period in Holy Trinity School.

Mary’s life was selfless and dedicated to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.

A funeral mass will be held in Holy Trinity Parish at 2725 Lonsdale Ave., North Vancouver on Wednesday, August 7 at 10:30 am.
