February 6, 1930 – January 2, 2015
Robbie died on January 2, after a brief illness. Born
in Guelph, Ontario, but raised in Vancouver, he
began his long career at Woodward’s as a stock
boy at the age of 18. He became the quintessential
mailroom to boardroom success story, ending his
career as the CEO of the company. In his
retirement, he took great pleasure in travelling,
fishing, golfing, and playing tennis with many
beloved friends. He was a master at planning and
hosting parties for family and friends, particularly
on Bowen Island, where the host’s tradition of
having guests leave for the 9:00 p.m. ferry was
strictly enforced. His thoughtful generosity and
kindness extended not only to his family and
friends, but also to many hardworking people who
he thought needed a little extra support. Robbie is
lovingly remembered by his wife, Eileen; his
daughter, Christie (Gregg); and his stepchildren,
Linda (Andrew), Beth, Doug (Sonia), Joan (Stan),
and Barb (Greg). He was predeceased by his first
wife, Sheila. He will also be sadly missed by his
brother, Don and sister-in-law, Sandy, and his
niece and nephew, Joanne and John (Jiyeon).
Robbie was also a loving grandfather to twelve,
and a great-grandfather to six. All our lives are
enriched simply by loving and being loved by this
wonderful man. A gathering to Celebrate his Life
will be held at the Capilano Golf and Country Club,
420 Southborough Drive, West Vancouver, on
Sunday, January 18, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. In lieu
of flowers, please consider donating to First
United Church, 320 Hastings Street E.,
Vancouver, B.C. V6A 1P4.
