Brian Douglas MacKay (aka "Bugsy"), beloved father to Hunter and Hamish MacKay, partner to Nicola O'Connor, son of Barb and Doug MacKay (decd), brother and brother-in-law to Laura MacKay Hall and Dave Hall, uncle to Charlotte and Rachel Hall, friend, and well-respected lawyer, passed away suddenly of natural causes, in his home, on Sunday evening, June 2nd, shortly after witnessing his childhood team, the Edmonton Oilers, advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.
He passed with Lucy, his best K9 friend, by his side after having had the perfect weekend: a BC Lions game on Friday, Saturday walking the dogs on his favourite trails with Nicola, and a Sunday morning visit with his adoring mum.
Brian's greatest accomplishments were his two sons, Hunter and Hamish. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with them skiing at Sun Peaks, golfing, washing cars, coaching baseball, attending airshows, or simply watching hockey and football games together (Go Lions!).
"The Three Amigos," as Brian referred to himself and his sons, were more than family; they were friends who leaned on each other. Brian was a great mentor to his sons, who often sought his advice on business and life, which he loved sharing. The simple pleasures in life gave Brian the most joy. He made it clear just a few days before his passing that he had everything he ever wanted.
His final years were spent enjoying more travel with Nicola, creating lasting memories, and enjoying some of the well-deserved finer things life had to offer.
Brian leaves behind a heartbroken family who will deeply miss his brilliant mind, quick wit, unwavering loyalty, compassion, and undeniable love. Lucy will be in the loving care of Nicola. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial service to be held Friday, June 21st. Please contact family for details.
