Rolf Schmidt

Rolf Schmidt passed away peacefully on September 18, 2022 surrounded by love from his family from all over the world. Rolf was born in Hamburg, Germany on November 10, 1938 to Ernst August Schmidt and Helene Amanda Teichfischer. On December 6, 1959 Rolf met his future wife, Marianne Laura Martha Strehlau and shared a marzipan pig together that she had in her purse. Every December 6th after that they shared a marzipan pig together. Not only did they meet that day, but they also got engaged the same day! They sealed the deal with a civil marriage on May 5, 1961 and then a sealing ceremony in the Swiss Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 8. Rolf and Marianne went on to have 4 children, 16 grandchildren, and 4, almost 5, great-grandchildren. Rolf was always very proud of his family and their accomplishments and would tell anyone who would listen to him. He was also very proud to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

As a member of the church he served faithfully as the Bishop of his ward in Berlin, and as the finance secretary, as well as a member of the high council, he also served as a sealer in the Jordan River Temple and Freiberg Temple. Rolf and Marianne went on to serve two missions for the church as well. They served a temple mission in the Freiberg Germany Temple as well as the Palmyra New York Temple.

Rolf is survived by his wife, Marianne Schmidt; children, Rottgar (Melody) Schmidt, Miriam (Dwight) Ricaldi, May-Cathleen (Hershell) Smith, and Majorie-Ann (Aaron) Syndergaard; grandchildren, Ann-Theresa, Sophie, Finn-Hendrik (Zita), Danilo (Simin), Melv-Niklas, Ryker (Xavier), Fenna-Louise, Luis-Rene (Lara), McKayla, Katelin, Ryanna, Colin, Blake, Garret, Corbyn, and Brooke; great-grandchildren, Milan, Mats, Dian, and Yuma. Rolf is preceded in death by his Mother Helene, Father Ernst, Aunts and Uncles, and Niece Nadja Buchholz.

A viewing will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 27 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 12830 S 2700 W Riverton, UT, 84065. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Those who wish to view the services through ZOOM my click the link below:
