He was born on March 22, 1936, in Murray, Utah to Lester Hewett Merrill & Florence Evelyn Eustance. He graduated from Murray High School. He served an active LDS mission to The New England States Mission. Shortly after his return he was drafted into the US Army, where he served for two years. He married Patricia Ann Carter on Aug. 3, 1961 in Salt Lake City, Utah and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake temple.
Jack was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many adventures hunting and fishing with his boys. He was often admired for his gardening abilities. Jack was a friend to everybody and was always willing to lend a hand. He will be dearly missed for his ability to light up the room with his presence.
Jack is survived by his wife, children; Troy (Tammy) Merrill, Ray (Stacie) Merrill, and David (Melissa) Merrill, siblings; Marge Wright, Gene (Sharon) Merrill, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bonnie Ashworth.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 2, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Jordan North 2nd ward, 4270 Falcon St. West Valley City, UT. Family will receive friends at a viewing Friday March 1, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 W. 4100 S. West Valley City, UT and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
