Douglas Brent Zitting, age 39, was at home and woke up peacefully in heaven on the morning of July 8, 2017. He was born February 25, 1978 in West Valley City, Utah to Brent William Zitting and Colleen Hansen Zitting.
He attended West Jordan High School and graduated from Salt Lake Community College with a Nursing Degree, he loved being a nurse. He was very loving, loyal, big hearted, Funny, a joker, and he loved watching and participating in all sports. He loved baseball; the Atlanta Braves were his favorite team, Chipper Jones, was his favorite player. He loved watching the Jazz play and watching football games on TV in the fall. He loved to play golf, softball, and was a great bowler. He had many 300 game rings. He started playing sports with soccer at four years old and baseball as a child. He started in a bowling league in junior high with his brother. In high school he was in many bowling tournaments and took third place at nationals in Las Vegas and earned a $3000.00 college scholarship.
Doug loved his family very much. He loved to do activities with his nieces and nephews. He treated them as his own children. He always wanted children, they were his by extension. He had the best brothers and sisters in the world. He loved his parents and his dogs, Buddy and Dexter. He loved the weather since he was very young. When KSL TV came to Academy Park Elementary, Lynn Randolph was very impressed with his knowledge and called him “Mr. Twister” on the air. The night Doug died; he orchestrated a magnificent thunder and lightning storm for us. We all said together; “This is Doug’s storm”.
He loved working as a nurse and he loved science and history. He was a gambling man. He enjoyed going to Wendover. He could turn $40 into $400. He loved to travel; one of his favorite places was Disney World. He loved chatting with his friends on the all deaf chat site.
He was very loving and always had a hug for his Mom. She would say “I need a Dougie hug” because that is what they were called since he was a young child and he would give them to all in need of a hug. He always had a smile on his face from the time he was very young and was always happy even while he was going through multiple medical problems that started as a young child. He loved his father very much and was able to spend his last day on earth with his Dad.
He is survived by his parents, Brent and Colleen; siblings, Darrell Zitting (Tracy), Debbie Zitting, DeeAnn Lopez-Jones (Jeff), David Zitting (Angie); nieces and nephews, Daryllin, Ryllee, Alexis, Brittany, Brandon, Christopher (mini me), Kayleen, Joseph, Faith, Titus, Mason, Ciena, and Tadum; and his dogs, Buddy and Dexter. Preceded in death by his grandparents and two aunts.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ridgeland Ward House, 4251 South 4800 West, West Valley City, Utah. Viewings held Friday, July 14, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah and one hour prior to the service at the church.
