She was born on November 8, 1945 in Ogden, Utah to John and Dawn (Tolman) Mills. She loved going to her grandpa’s summertime fruit stand during her childhood and enjoyed working on the yearbooks in both Ogden High School and Weber College. Her life passions included quilting, sewing, and exploring new places with her husband. Most of all, she loved being the best friend to her husband, caring mother to her eight children and their spouses, generous grandmother to her 34 grandchildren and their spouses, and proud great grandmother to her one great grandchild (soon to be two).
On August 26, 1966, Dawnine and Kent were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. She cherished many friendships throughout her life, several of which came from her time working at Utah Housing, Williams, and with her husband at World Book Inc.
Dawnine’s lifelong devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ was evident in her daily service to those around her. She loved making baby quilts for her grandkids and spent many hours baking fresh loaves of bread delivered to her neighbors at Christmastime. One of her treasured accomplishments was aggregating and writing the missing family history of our devoted pioneer ancestor Benjamin Hewitt Tolman. She was well pleased that each of her eight children chose to serve missions and was excited to also serve a mission with her husband in Iron Mountain, Michigan and in St. George, Utah.
Dawnine is survived by her husband, Kent Boyd Johnson, currently living in Mesa, Arizona; her children Bradly Johnson (Teresa), Stephanie Barnhurst (Christopher), Kyle Johnson (Sandy), Alexander Johnson (Amy), Mary Touchet (Joel), Jennifer Stephan (Michael), Camille Stansfield (Crosby), Preston Johnson (Michele); and her siblings, John Mills Jr. (Krystal), Brenda Peterson Cheever and Ruth Ann Winterton (Kelly). She is preceded in death by her father John Mills, her mother Dawn (Tolman) Mills; son-in-law, Chris Barnhurst; and brothers-in-law, Ron Peterson, Doug Cheever.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to each of the health care professionals and providers of selfless service who were angels to Dawnine and her family, especially Julie Hatch.
