It is with sadness that the family of Cleora Thayn Peterson announces her return to Heaven on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the age of 89. Cleora was followed in death by her husband Jay Allen Peterson, who passed away, Monday, June 3, 2019. Next month Jay and Cleora would both have celebrated their 90th birthdays and 67th wedding anniversary.
Cleora was born at her grandmother's home in Emery, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents Homer and Sylmer Thayn, sisters Carol Renee Thayn, and Elaine Snyder, brother Ronald Thayn, sister-in-law June Hollingsworth, and brother-in-law Almon Butterfield. Survived by sister Marnell Butterfield, brother Paul (Dottie) Thayn, sister-in-law Idyll Thayn, and brothers-in-law, Paul Snyder and Marvin Hollingsworth.
Cleora was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and 'other mother' to many of her children's friends. Her family and extended family played a significant part in her life. She enjoyed travel, camping, hiking, adventures with her family, and extended family. She looked forward to family reunions, doing genealogy, listening to the Tabernacle Choir, doing puzzles, oil painting, and was an avid BYU sports fan. In fact, she will be buried with one of her many BYU blankets.
She was a lifelong, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a two-year mission in the Great Lakes Mission at the age of 21, and together with Jay served multiple family history missions as a senior couple after Jay's retirement.
Cleora's life revolved around her children whom she is very proud of. She is survived by her son Kent (Sonja) Peterson, Renae (David) Allred, Stacey Bauer, Mark (Michelle) Peterson, and Jared (Terry) Peterson, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many grand pups and cats.
Two viewings will be held to honor the lives of Cleora and Jay Peterson. The first one will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019, from 6:30 - 8 PM, at the Valley View Funeral Home, located at 4335 West, 4100 South, West Valley City, UT 84120.
The second will be on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 10:00 - 10:45 AM at the LDS meetinghouse located at 5000 West Pavant Ave, West Valley City, UT, 84120, with the funeral to start immediately after the viewing at 11 AM.
Interment will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at 2 PM in the Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West, 4100 South, West Valley City, UT 84120.
The children of Cleora would like to thank the staff of Summit Senior Living, Harmony Hospice, Hunter 15th Ward, all those who visited our parents, said prayers on their behalf, and for all the comforting messages received.
