Yolanda was born and raised in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica. She loved her native country and was proud of her heritage.
Those who came to know her called her Mima, and she was not one to suffer fools lightly. Our mother was curious about the world and everything going on in it, passionate, determined, and indomitable. She had a great sense of humor and mischief. Mima liked Spanish soap operas, Atlanta Braves, and sometimes golf, but her passion for sewing was first and foremost. Sit her down at a sewing machine, and magic happened. There was nothing she couldn't create or repair with needle and thread for friends, family, or her high-profile clients.
Although Mima had a limited interest in sport, she could have won Olympic Gold in the "give the evil eye" competition. When we were children, we knew to remain frozen in place until the eye returned to its natural position, at which time we breathed a sigh of relief.
She was a mother hen to all and a fierce lioness when protection was warranted and deserved. She was unique and a mother like no other.
Yolanda is survived by her five children and spouse, Jimmy, Glenn (Sharon), Gilda, Mario (Lisa) and Elaine. Her four grandchildren Justin (Alana) , Shaun (Lauren) Kirsten and Alyssa. Great grandchildren Isabella, Sophia, Ava, Jameson and Emery.
