Nelson “Rico” Mercado was born November 29, 1950 in Bronx, New York and passed on August 1, 2015 in West Palm Beach, Florida
Rico was a retired foreman in the construction industry and a Vietnam Veteran having served his country in the United States Marines from 1968 to 1972. It was in this timeframe that he was introduced to martial arts, eventually setting records and attaining a 10th degree black belt.
Survivors include his daughter Nicole Mercado, his son Michael Mercado (son-in-law Paul Copeland), and grandson Ryan Copeland. Rico is also survived by three brothers: Albert, Joe, and Johnny. He was predeceased by his loving wife Patricia and his sister Norma.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8th from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Funeral Services and Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM at Quattlebaum Funeral, Cremation and Event Center, 5411 Okeechobee Boulevard, West Palm Beach, FL
